Asia, African and Native Influenced Skin Care Guide

Multi-Step Skincare Routine (A-N-A Beauty)  Asian, Native, and African Approaches to Youthful, Bright Faces

What is interesting to note are the changes we are seeing in the industry of facial care.  Due to inflation, the average woman is growing more inclined to a DIY facial care routine that includes cleansing, toning, masking a few times a week, and Moisturizing 2 times a day.  We have researched how Koreans keep their skin looking so youthful and have developed a Facial Mist used throughout the day to cool and soothe that includes skin-loving NWL Triple Helix or Trifecta of skin care: Hyaluronic Acid, Silk & Collagen Peptides, and usually combined with the therapeutic benefits of Alfalfa Extract, Green Tea (Red Rooibos South African only, and essential oils that address specific skin types).  The Korean skincare routine is famous for its multi-step approach, typically 10 steps or more. To keep things simple, here’s a facial routine that you can use to make your face stay fresh and youthful.   Each step is designed to hydrate, protect, and nourish the skin. Some common steps include:

  • Double cleansing (oil-based and water-based cleansers) removes makeup, dirt, and impurities. AM & PM
  • Exfoliation removes dead skin cells and promotes skin renewal. which you can find in any NWL Product containing Activated Charcoal, Salty Sugar Scrubs, and products containing Salicylic Acid. 3-5 times a week.
  • Toning daily after washing the face to balance the skin’s pH and prepare it for subsequent products.  Our Clean Skin Exfoliating Facial Toner is pH-balanced and contains all-natural ingredients with zero alcohol to allow the skin to be refreshed and set for moisturizer. Use daily after cleaning your face with our specially designed facial soaps.
  • Essences and serums include Northstar Bloat Buster which targets specific concerns like eye bags or facial bloat.
  • Facial masks provide intense detoxification and remove dead skin cells, allowing for collagen-boosting new skin growth and reducing fine lines. We provide the “Undaunted” Rose Peelable and French Green Clay masks for your needs. 3-5 Times a Week.
  • Moisturizers to lock in hydration.  Our “Baby Face” formula is a thick rich creme containing premium ingredients that lock in moisture and protect your skin from environmental toxins. Use 2 times a day or more.
  • Sunscreen to protect the skin from UV damage.  Any sunscreen that protects at spf 30+ is great as a daily regimen if you are subjected to hours of daylight, check out uvskinz.com.
  • By the way, these products are available now in our “Fall in Love with Your Face” Gift Box with a 40+% OFF DISCOUNT that includes a beautiful magnetic gift box that you will want to repurpose. (Except for Sunscreen not included).

1. Focus on Hydration

Hydration is a core principle of our skincare. Products like essences, sheet masks, and lightweight moisturizers are designed to deliver moisture deep into the skin, helping maintain a dewy, plump appearance  All NWL products are designed to retain moisture (except for the facial bloat product:  “Northstar Bloat Buster” which removes excess water from areas such as under the eyes and cheeks which can be puffy due to water retention. It is effective due to the ingredients and essential oils that will drain your face from puffiness, and purify under your skin so you will feel the salty water drain from your face, so we suggest that you use it before you tighten and control that area with the Undaunted Rose Peelable Mask or the Green Tea Rich French Green Clay Mask).  Our Fall in Love with Your Face Gift Box includes an exclusive new product called Seoul Spray, a Korean sea mineral light spray that provides instant hydration and cooling to your face. The reason why Koreans look so youthful is by following a simple skincare routine, which you can easily adapt.  Try our Exclusive “Seoul Spray Oceanic Facial Mist because it provides instant hydration throughout the day, is easy to carry, feels instant relief, and smells amazing. We are so very excited to be one of the first to bring such a great product to you because it also contains the Trifecta of Ingredients known to NWL: Hyaluronic Acid, Silk & Collagen Peptides in every small spritz.

2. Regular Use of Anti-Aging Ingredients from multiple Continents and Cultures

High-quality skincare products often include ingredients known for their anti-aging properties, such as:

  • Rosemary Oil, Eucalyptus, and Peppermint Essential Oils, are known for their anti-aging benefits and ability to improve blood circulation. NWL typically uses Alfalfa & Rose Hydrosol along with mints like peppermint, spearmint, menthol crystals, and essential oils.  See all the ingredients we use posted online,  Additionally, every product we offer includes all ingredients on the label listed in order of weight volume per product.  Know that we are transparent about our raw materials, formulation, and manufacturing processes by following GMP guidelines, Cosmetic and FDA requirements, and take special care about the quality and sustainability of the growers (fair trade) as well as you, your family, and the environment as we are cruelty-free, eco-friendly, and lake-safe. See the steps we take to ensure quality.
  • Asian Silk Peptides and collagen support skin elasticity when combined with regular exfoliation.  Nearly all products for skin and hair care include Hyaluronic Acid, Silk, and Collagen Peptides combined with skin-loving oils and additives. For more information see Botanicals, Oils, and Additives We Use.
  • Hyaluronic Acid and antioxidants fight free radicals which are contained in our bodies already and brighten the skin. Our facial Masks, the “Undaunted” Rose Peelable and French Green Clay include a formulation rich in antioxidants. The Green Clay contains Salicylic Acid, which exfoliates, preparing the skin for a moisture-grabbing toner.  You will feel immediate effects.  All facial moistures include the Trifecta of Silk, Hyalaronic Acid, and Collagen along with rich, thin oils that moisturize without a greasy feel.  The tightening effects of the peelable Rose Mask instantly grab the skin and tighten. Asians tend to also use a significant amount of Aloe Vera and seaweed. Fish Oils (Omega 3).
  • We include many products originating from Africa such as Coconut Oil, Madagascan Vanilla, Aloe Vera, Argan Oil, Moroccan Lava Clay / Moroccan Stevensite, Green Tea *which is Red Rooibos or Honeybush Plant, Shea Butter, Cocoa Butter, Neem Oil, Essential Oils such as frankincense, myrrh, and eucalyptus as well as spices such as Tumeric.  We believe in a multi-continental approach with ancient ingredients known for their region, and gaining scientifically sound research that results to your skin and overall health.

3. Gentle Approach

Korean women often avoid harsh, abrasive products and opt for gentle exfoliation and moisturizing techniques. This minimizes irritation and inflammation, both of which can lead to premature aging.  It is important to not use an exfoliator every day.  Our gift box includes two facial soaps and two of your choice of soap art:  One for exfoliation and one for gentle skin cleaning.  The other two soap art are for general decor and spa-like bathing.

4. Diet

A diet rich in antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals contributes to youthful skin. Common components include:

  • Green tea is known for its high antioxidant content. A great ingredient used in our products is Red Rooibos, a green tea from South Africa known for centuries to bring amazing benefits to the body and skin.  The brand we incorporate into our products is Davidson’s which not only tastes great and has a calming body and mind effect, it also works great as an extract for healthy skin.  Red Rooibos provides so many benefits such as helping exercise performance, concentration, mood, lowering risks of cancers, diabetes, healthy heart, and digestion. A scoping review provided by PubMed explains in much more scientific detail how Red Rooibos is beneficial.  Another great investigative study is done by the South African Journal of Botany.
  • Fermented foods and local foods like kimchi, promote healthy guts and glowing skin.  Some of the most delicious recipes come from my stock of Kimchi  Check out what www.AllRecipes.com has to say about its Kimchi.  I like to make Kimchi along with beef or bison to make the tastiest burgers ever.  I also use fermented Mahnoomin (Wild Rice) in my skincare lines, which is hand-harvested from my tribal members’ canoes you: White Earth Nation has Wild Rice and other hand-harvested products available for sale for eating delicious nutty flavor as well as local Maple Syrup and Honey.  With the holidays coming up, you cannot find any gift basket so “Minnesotan” because that’s who we have been for thousands of years.
    • The fermentation process uses microorganisms to break down organic materials, leaving behind nutrient-dense by-products such as peptides and amino acids. When these ingredients are concentrated as a consequence of fermentation, they become not only more potent but also more easily absorbed by the skin. By boosting the production of collagen, fermented wild rice gives skin a supple, even, and radiant tone.  This ingredient is very good for sensitive skin!
    • To ferment the rice, all you need to do is incorporate a fermented product into your rice cooker, and of course, I usually use Kimchi or sauerkraut for its rich flavor and health benefits. Even unfermented wild rice provides a rich source of protein, fiber, amino acids and minerals potassium and phosphorus as well as the B vitamins niacin, riboflavin, and thiamine. It is one of the main foods of my people.
  • Seaweed and Fish are rich in vitamins and minerals that nourish the skin.  So if you are a sushi foodie, this is a great way to keep yourself looking and feeling young. An alternative if seaweed is not easily accessible is to eat the fish skin, save the oils/water from cooking with a steamer, and use in other food recipes or your skincare routine.  A variety of DIY recipes for facemasks are available online.  Otherwise, you can trust when seaweed, oakmoss, alfalfa, or other natural ingredients are in our products they are either locally extracted or purchased with quality control, purity, and fair trade.  Walleye fish is a Minnesota favorite and contains the best tasting *in my opinion, of all local fish and is a traditional food of the Ojibwe, of which I am a proud tribal member.

7. Facial Massage

Facial massages are commonly integrated into skincare routines, either through tools like jade rollers, electric facial massage tools or by hand. These massages help improve blood circulation, promote lymphatic drainage, and reduce puffiness, giving the skin a firmer, more youthful appearance. It is critical when doing a facial massage that you apply pressure upward from your chin to your cheek. This YouTube video for an in-depth routine can give you tips with great details on how to do this with a tool I have called NuFace, and you can use this same technique when applying manually that she details in her full facial routine *which to me is quite complex, but you get the idea of how you too can simplify these techniques without the NuFace Tool, or any LED facial products on the market.

6. Consistent Routine

The Korean approach to skincare emphasizes consistency and long-term care. It’s not about quick fixes but daily practices leading to gradual, lasting improvements.  So start simple:  Cleanse, Tone, Moisturize, Massage.  Use the Bloat Buster before using a mask or toner so the excess water under your eyes that causes eye bags can be depleted and kept in check.  For all products available online please visit https://www.NorthWolfLuxury.com and for in-person sales, come to the Grand Rapids’ River Blue Market Friday and Saturday, October 11th and 12, 2024.

By combining these practices, we can maintain youthful, radiant skin for longer.
